September 2010- Shadow as Duality

Individuals, who do not know the shadow is operating within them, are fearful and will cast out those with opposing views. They separate themselves through judgments and over-identifying with one aspect. The key to awakening is seeing the interrelationship of things versus the polarization. When one identifies with a polar aspect then, one is unconscious and unaware of the dynamic operating within their psyche. They are ensconced in duality and have internal conflict.

When the focus shifts to identifying the quality of relationship you have with that structure, then you are shifting consciousness away from duality. For example, if you are angered at a CEO’s making a large salary despite the corporation performance, then you are in the act of separation. You perceive the greed or incompetence of the CEO as something that exists outside of you instead of shifting your perception to exploring your relationship to greed or incompetence. Exploring this relationship and opening to compassion, brings stillness of mind.
